The peristaltic pump tubing kit is
designed for the automatic addition of a Scandium or Yttrium Internal
Standard (I/S) and/or Li ionization suppressant solution to your
samples.
1. Installation
To use the kit, attach the pump tubing to adjacent rollers on
the peristaltic pump. Insert capillary tube from the ORANGE-GREEN-ORANGE
winding into the bulk I/S or I/S + Li solution. The capillary from
the ORANGE-ORANGE-ORANGE winding is used to pump the samples.
2. Bulk Internal Standard Solution
This tubing kit will provide a sample dilution factor of about
20%. For use with the ICAP 61E Trace Analyzer, or any of the axial
instruments, it is recommended that the bulk solution be made up as
follows: For simple internal
standard addition:
5 ppm Sc or Y
For
addition of I/S plus Li:
5 ppm Sc or Y, plus 1000 ppm Li
The final concentration in the sample reaching the plasma
will then be approximately 1ppm I/S (Sc or Y), and if present, 200ppm
Li. Note: The exact
concentration of I/S and/or Li is not critical. However, it is
most important that sufficient bulk solution be available to
complete the run. If a new batch of bulk solution is made up, the
instrument should be re-standardized prior to running any sample or
check solutions. 3. Peristaltic
Pump Speed
Due to the increased solution flow, the peristaltic pump speed
should be reduced to 100 to 110 rpm from the usual 130 to 140 rpm.
