Cannabis laboratories face unique challenges due to Federal scheduling and the state-by-state nature of the industry. In addition, the complex matrices of cannabis flowers and infused products combined with the volatile and reactive nature of some target analytes add to the challenges of day-to-day analysis. Given the lack of matrix-specific quality control materials, certified reference materials (CRM) play a critical role in a cannabis laboratory’s ability to establish and maintain accuracy results.
While CRM manufacturers specify storage conditions, it is imperative that laboratories understand how the integrity of some analytes may change with use and over time. This can impact how CRMs are aliquoted, stored, used, and reordered.
